Chili Cook-Off January 31st

At noon on Sunday, Jan 31st in the Fellowship Hall, it’s going to get a little spicy!  That is because the chase for the 2016 Championship Ladle is bubbling over.  All we need now is Chili and our hungry chili fans.  There are prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd as voted by the Lake Mary Fire Department. Hot or not, vegetarian or meat, email Pastor Chris chrisj@hclm.org to register your Chili.

Summer Mission Trip July 17-23, 2016

Our high school students are traveling to North Carolina to partner with a home repair mission organization called ReCreation Experiences.  Registration fee is $50.. Students will engage in a multitude of jobs. We do this for individuals who, for either financial or physical limitations, cannot have this work done themselves. Book Club

Whistling Past the Graveyard delivers big with a coming-of-age story set in Mississippi in 1963 and narrated by a precocious 9-year-old…Young Starla is an endearing character whose spirited observations propel this nicely crafted story. Join in the discussion on Jan 25th at 7PM in room 203.

Last Thursday of the Month Dinner Group

“Fourth Tuesdays”

Represent fellowship AND FUN at Holy Cross with lots of laughter and socializing while playing BUNCO! Come see for yourself on Tuesday, January 26th [11:30 a.m./brown bag lunch; noon/game starts] in the Fellowship Hall. Prizes awarded for first BUNCO, most BUNCOs, most wins, most losses, and whatever are in the form of bagged white elephant items provided by the players. Since it takes all of 5 seconds to learn the “rules,” prior experience obviously is not required!

The Basketball “L” Team

is back on the court on the 1st & 3rd Thursday’s of each month from 7:30-9:00pm.  This Adult Open Gym takes place at the Holy Cross Upper School Campus at 100 Aero Lane in Sanford.  The cost is just $1 and helps to support the school athletic program. Real Men of Jesus

Join us for the next Real Men of Jesus LTeam on Thursday, February 11th at 7PM in the Fellowship Hall. This time Pastor Chris will lead a short devotional and we will then crown the Second Annual Cornhole Team Champions. Plus we will also be having  4Rivers BBQ. It’s a new LTeam for people who enjoy sharing and learning new recipes. We take turns teaching others to make a new dish and expand their culinary horizons. PALS Group

The Holy Cross Lutheran Academy PALS group (parents actively lending support) in honor of National Lutheran Schools Week will be hosting coffee hour today. Everyone is welcome to join us for tasty baked goods and coffee.

Wizard of Oz

Holy Cross Lutheran Academy’s Upper School Theater Club is presenting
Wizard of Oz on January 26th at 6:30pm. Our auditorium location is 100 Aero Lane, Sanford.  Tickets will be sold at the door for $5.

Early Communion Class for 4-5th graders

The class is for children,  that in their parent’s estimation, are mature and ready to receive the Lord’s Supper. The class starts on Feb 17th at 6:30pm and runs each week on Wednesdays through March 23rd.  After completion of the 6-week class, the students are invited to partake in their first communion at the Maundy Thursday service, March 24th at 7pm. If you would like to have your child participate in the class, we ask that you do two things.  1) Reserve your spot (so we can order materials) by Feb 9th; by contacting Sue Moffitt in the church office at 407-333-0797 x1106 or smoffitt@hclm.org. 2) Have at least one parent attend each of the six 1-hour sessions with your child.


Next week is Lutheran Schools week and we’ve got various activities planned.  The one for Tues, Jan 26th, is to have community members drop by lower school classes throughout the day, dressed as historical or Biblical figures, and briefly talk about that person to the students.  It’s supposed to seem random and natural. If you would like to volunteer or request more information contact  Tim Marquis at tmarquis@thehcla.org.

HCLA News Lake Mary Campus

Meg Anderson will be speaking to parents/grandparents about the emotional/social growth in early childhood.  This is a free seminar and will be held in the Fellowship Hall from 8:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on February 3rd.

First Sunday Cookout
