Pastor Poker – January 18th
Before there were video games, people used to play cards! For those of you who were raised to sort and hold those cards in your hands we are offering an opportunity to join with other like minded people to play cards for fun. We play Texas Hold Em with a $5.00 buy in. At the end of the night the winner picks the charity that receives the winnings. You do not go home with the winnings, your buy in is a donation. So poker without gambling! What could be better.  We play at Pastor Paul Hoyer’s house and we start at 7:00pm and go until we are done usually around 10:30 to 11:00pm. Bring your own beverage! Contact Pastor Paul for more information paul@hclm.org.

Book Club
Whistling Past the Graveyard delivers big with a coming-of-age story set in Mississippi in 1963 and narrated by a precocious 9-year-old…Young Starla is an endearing character whose spirited observations propel this nicely crafted story. Join in the discussion on Jan 25th at 7PM.

General Announcements

Sharing Center
There is no sandwich more perfect than the peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Although it’s nothing fancy — just two pieces of bread topped with peanut butter (on both sides) and jelly — the two spreads get along like lifelong friends. For the month of January we will be collecting peanut butter and jelly for the Sharing Center.

Holy Cross 101
Pastor Matt is offering a new member class, no secret handshakes, no passwords involved. It will be a onetime class on Thursday January 21st  from 6-9PM. It will be a meet & greet with other new people, a Q & A with Pastor Matt and an introductions to our beliefs. It is a chance for you to learn more about Holy Cross and meet other people in a fun and friendly atmosphere. A light dinner will be provided.  If you plan on attending, please contact Pastor Matt at mwallis@hclm.org.

Ever wonder who sets up Communion?

Altar Guild needs additional workers.  Please consider joining our group.  We will work with you to schedule your service according to your time available.  This is a “behind the scenes” need that is very important to our church. We take turns serving  usually for a month at a time.  If you have some time available, please call the church office or Mickey Buschman at 407-878-0204.

It’s Not TOO LATE – Youth Basketball and Cheer
There is still time to register kids PreK4 through the 5th grade for our Holy Cross run Youth Sports League for Basketball/Cheer (www.SeminoleLeagues.com).  The season starts in January and lasts 8 weeks.  This makes a great gift for kids that the whole family will enjoy.  We have also opened up our Spring Flag Football/Cheer registration which starts in March.  Holy Cross, through this sports ministry, is committed to providing a Christian environment focused on developing children physically, mentally, spiritually and socially.  All leagues take place at the Middle School / High School campus on Aero Lane in Sanford.  If you would like to volunteer to help this ministry with planning, coaching, as a referee, host or even leading halftime devotions, please contact Athletic Director, Matt Martin – mmartin@theHCLA.org.

Gift Planning
Gifts of Appreciated Assets provide opportunity for being generous while providing a tax deduction based on the full value of the asset. There is also capital gain avoidance.  Call Robin Paris, LCMS Foundation Gift Planning Counselor at 937-477-9713, or Robin.Paris@lfnd.org.
