Brunch
Starting today we will be suspending Brunch until further notice. It has become cost prohibitive to serve brunch weekly, we will still have coffee in the courtyard and in the Fellowship Hall.
It’s Cereal Time
Summer is a tough time for many families trying to keep food on the table. As we have done in the past, we will be collecting cereal for the month of June to donate to the Sharing Center. We are going to be getting a lot of help from the children and volunteers who attend VBS.
Book Club News
Our June book club meeting is scheduled for June 22nd. The book of the month is “The Midwife of Venice” by Roberta Rich. 1575 Venice and Malta come to life here. The dark, cramped quarters of the ghetto in which the Jews are forced to live as well as the splendid marble palazzo filled with silks, spices and elegance are vividly recreated. The differences between Hannah’s life as a Jew and the unfettered existence of the Conte and his family are starkly delineated in every scene they both inhabit. Sounds like a great read!
Last Thursday of the Month Dinner Group
We have found this tiny little eatery consistently good. The brisket tender and tasty, chicken always tender and extremely flavorful. Spare ribs also fabulous. Our overall favorite is the pulled pork. Join this dinner group at Keller’s BBQ on June 25th. Make reservations with Joanne Hench at 407-322-6004 by June 24th.
Even Though it is Summer
We are still collecting Box Tops for Education to raise funds for the HCLA. Each Box Top has a $0.10 value. When buying your groceries, be sure to look for items that have the Box Top logo on them and don’t forget to clip the coupon before throwing the bag or box away.
Young Women
Are you a woman between the ages of 18 and 40?
Do you want to get away for the weekend?
Would you like to spend some time getting closer to God?
If you answered “yes” to all of the above, then text Sharon Shyrock at 407-719-2409 or e-mail ssshyrock@yahoo.com to find our more about attending the Lutheran Women in Mission Retreat at the Sirata Resort in St. Petersburg, Florida this coming September 26-28, 2015.
Bean Bag Chairs Needed
Seminole Leagues, Holy Cross’ very own sports ministry, is quite proud of our first year. At our Aero Lane Campus, we hosted an Upward Sports Program that saw 172 different kids participate in one of our leagues. This summer we are hosting summer sports camps for incoming 3rd -8th grades and are creating a room for them to “recharge”. It is our vision to have this room filled with bean bag chairs…for them to escape the heat. If you have an old one or can pick one up while you are out and about, please donate it to the Church Office.
Sports and Wacky Games
All Summer Long (from now until July 31st), Holy Cross, through its Sports Ministry (Seminole Leagues) will be offering full day camps for older kids. This active camp is designed for kids entering 3rd-8th grade and will be at 100 Aero Lane (HCLA Middle and High School Campus) in Sanford. The camp opens at 8am and runs until 4pm at a cost of $175 per child. Aftercare is available until 5:30 for an extra fee. Kids will be split into two age groups and spend the day learning and playing new sports and wacky games. Each day includes snacks and daily swimming in our on-campus pool! For more information, please visit www.seiminoleleagues.com or call 407-915-JUMP(5867).
