Homemade goodies will be provided for Sunday Brunch this week by LWML

Christianity and the competition

Is Christianity just one of many world religions? Join us as we begin a new eight-week Bible study THIS SUNDAY at 11:00am titled Christianity and the competition.

It’s Cereal Time
Summer is a tough time for many families trying to keep food on the table. As we have done in the past, we will be collecting cereal for the month of June to donate to the Sharing Center.

Book Club News
Our June book club meeting is scheduled for June 22nd.  The book of the month is “The Midwife of Venice” by Roberta Rich. 1575 Venice and Malta come to life here. The dark, cramped quarters of the ghetto in which the Jews are forced to live as well as the splendid marble palazzo filled with silks, spices and elegance are vividly recreated. The differences between Hannah’s life as a Jew and the unfettered existence of the Conte and his family are starkly delineated in every scene they both inhabit. Sounds like a great read!

Last Thursday of the Month Dinner Group
We have found this tiny little eatery consistently good. The brisket tender and tasty, chicken always tender and extremely flavorful. Spare ribs also fabulous. Our overall favorite is the pulled pork. Join this dinner group at Keller’s BBQ on June 25th. Make reservations with Joanne Hench at 407-322-6004 by June 24th.

Lessons from the Titanic
We start to look at our successes and ignore the need to safeguard our spiritual growth. We may start to feel unsinkable, like the Titanic. But there are always hidden dangers that can wreck our witness and ministry. The only way to safely navigate life is to keep our eyes on Jesus, not on ourself or the circumstances around us. He will help us complete our voyage, and that’s only the tip of the iceberg. Join the ladies from LWML as they study this devotion on Tuesday, June 23rd at 7PM.

“Fourth Tuesdays”
Represent fellowship AND FUN at Holy Cross with lots of laughter and socializing while playing BUNCO! Come see for yourself on Tuesday, June 23rd [11:30 a.m./brown bag lunch; noon/game starts] in the Fellowship Hall. Prizes awarded for first BUNCO, most BUNCOs, most wins, most losses, and whatever are in the form of bagged white elephant items provided by the players. Since it takes all of 5 seconds to learn the “rules,” prior experience obviously is not required!

The Little Red Truck is going on vacation!
Please save your aluminum cans and all metals, until late July. All the proceeds from this recycling help fund the Guatemalan mission.

Young Women
Are you a woman between the ages of 18 and 40?Do you want to get away for the weekend?
Would you like to spend some time getting closer to God?
If you answered “yes” to all  of the above, then text Sharon Shyrock at 407-719-2409 or e-mail to find our more about attending the Lutheran Women in Mission Retreat at the Sirata Resort in St. Petersburg, Florida this coming September 26-28, 2015.

Bean Bag Chairs Needed
Seminole Leagues, Holy Cross’ very own sports ministry, is quite proud of our first year. At our Aero Lane Campus, we hosted an Upward Sports Program that saw 172 different kids participate in one of our leagues. This summer we are hosting summer sports camps for incoming 3rd -8th grades and are creating a room for them to “recharge”. It is our vision to have this room filled with bean bag chairs…for them to escape the heat. If you have an old one or can pick one up while you are out and about, please donate it to the Church Office.

Muslim Mission Society Development
LWML’s mite monies, $7500, will be going to this group. This allocation will help develop the Sisters of Faith Muslim Mission Society which will reach out to the adherents of the false religion of Islam. The ladies will be collecting mites next Sunday.

The 12th Annual Thrivent Day with the Rays
This year’s game will have the Tampa Bay Rays taking on the Houston Astros on Saturday, July 11th at 4:10PM. Group tickets cost $25!  The Rays have upgraded the tickets to the Lower Reserved section. to get the group rate we will need 10 people to sign up, please see Carolyn in the church office for tickets.

Prayers of Thanksgiving
On this Father’s Day Bless these men, that they may be strengthened as Christian fathers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them always with a spirit of profound respect.
