Attention VBS Volunteers!

It’s the final countdown to the 2015 Everest Vacation Bible School! We are so excited to have you on our team! We have scheduled two Volunteer Training sessions. One on Thursday, June 4th at 7:00 p.m. in the Worship Center or Sunday, June 7th at 12:30 (pizza provided at Sunday’s meeting only) in the Fellowship Hall. Our goal is to prepare you for an amazing expedition and provide you with the tools you need to help kids discover God’s mighty power.  You will also find out your volunteer role and responsibilities. It is required that you attend one of these sessions. Please contact the church office if you have any questions.

Will Bequests and Living Trust Distributions

Will Bequests and Living Trust Distributions give property, after our earthly life, to people we consider ‘family’. Does the Lord’s work fit within your concept of ‘family’? Contact our Gift Planning Counselor, Robin Paris, by calling her at 937-477-9713 (cell); 407-333-0797, Ext 1103, or emailing her at She will be happy to assist you.

Bean Bag Chairs Needed

Seminole Leagues, Holy Cross’s very own sports ministry, is quite proud of our first year.   At our Aero Lane Campus, we hosted an Upward Sports Program that saw 172 different kids participate in one of our leagues.  This summer we are hosting summer sports camps for incoming 3rd – 8th grades and are creating a room for them to “recharge”.  It is our vision to have this room filled with bean bag chairs… for them to escape the heat.  If you have an old one or can pick one up while you are out and about, please donate it to the church office.

This Tuesday, May 26th, is our monthly meeting and Bible study, “A Monster in the Closet”. Please plan to join us for Bible study at 7pm in the Fellowship Hall. If you wish to help organize upcoming events please come about 6:30 pm. Hope to see you there!

One Summer America: 1927

Sometimes, one magnificent season can define an era. It’s not hard to argue that the apogee of the wild ride America took in the 1920s came in the summer of 1927. Bryson writes in a style as effervescent as the time itself. Join the Book Club on May 25th at 7PM as they discuss this fascinating book.

“Fourth Tuesdays”

Represent fellowship AND FUN at Holy Cross with lots of laughter and socializing while playing BUNCO! Come see for yourself on Tuesday, May 26th [11:30 a.m./brown bag lunch; noon/game starts] in the Fellowship Hall. Prizes awarded for first BUNCO, most BUNCOs, most wins, most losses, and whatever are in the form of bagged white elephant items provided by the players. Since it takes all of 5 seconds to learn the “rules,” prior experience obviously is not required!

Donations for the Sharing Center

During the month of May, we will be collecting some non-food items that the Pantry is in need of: Toilet Paper, Shampoo, Toothpaste, Deodorant, Sun Screen and Bug Spray

Embark on an Icy Expedition

Vacation Bible School is filling up fast, we have a few slots open week one (June 8-12) and week two (June 15-19) for school age as well as preschool/ kindergarten. With nearly 400 campers over two weeks, we need more volunteers. There are plenty of ways to help, from check-in to “shepherding” small groups of kids from station to station, from putting together snacks to leading an activity station.  We can use all the help we can get, whether it is just one hour a day or all morning.  We even have a nursery if you have younger kids that need to be watched while you are volunteering.  To register as a camper or a
volunteer, please go to

Take a Hand!

You will notice a barrel in the narthex that is covered with little hands. On the hands is written items that VBS still needs to make the two weeks successful. Please take a hand and return with the item next week. Thank you!

Last Thursday of the Month Dinner Group

This month’s dinner will be held at The Breezeway in Sanford on May 28th at 5:00pm. Call Joanne Hench (407-322-6004) by May 27th with your reservation.

Sports and Wacky Games

All Summer Long (June 8th – July 31st), Holy Cross, through its Sports Ministry (Seminole Leagues) will be offering full day camps for older kids. This active camp is designed for kids entering 3rd-8th grade and will be at 100 Aero Lane (HCLA Middle and High School Campus) in Sanford. The camp opens at 8am and runs until 4pm at a cost of $175 per child. Aftercare is available until 5:30 for an extra fee. Kids will be split into two age groups and spend the day learning and playing new sports and wacky games. Each day includes snacks and daily swimming in our on-campus pool! For more information, please visit or call 407-915-JUMP(5867).

Last Weekend’s Sermon

Have you ever felt like you were called to something greater?  Do you feel like you are fulfilling the role you were meant to fill?  Have you ever felt like you could be more, or do more, but life keeps getting in the way?  In this penultimate installment of The Life and Times of Jesus Christ, we see the early church attempting to answer these questions. They are faced with the challenge of forging ahead despite suffering some important losses. Come and join us this weekend and find out how the church handled this crisis and what happened!
