Understanding the Gallup Engagement Survey

The Gallup Engagement Survey is a foundational component of our multi-year timeline, serving as the scientifically rigorous starting point for this entire initiative. Developed by Gallup—a trusted, independent global analytics and advisory firm—the survey is designed to measure the strength of the emotional and psychological connection members to their church.

What does it measure?

Instead of just measuring “satisfaction,” the survey focuses on engagement—the involvement and enthusiasm of individuals in their community and work. This is done using the ME25 (Member Engagement Survey), which focuses on spiritual health and belonging within faith communities. The survey results categorize respondents into three key groups:

Engaged: Those who are loyal, enthusiastic, and psychologically invested in the organization’s mission and purpose.

Not Engaged: Those who are present but are essentially “checked out,” going through the motions without passion or energy.

Actively Disengaged: Those who are unhappy and acting out their unhappiness, potentially undermining the work of others.

The ultimate goal of the survey is to provide actionable data that allows ministry leaders to identify specific strengths to build upon and specific weaknesses to address. By systematically measuring factors like clarity of expectations, opportunities for development, and feeling valued, the survey gives us the insights needed to implement the targeted action items outlined later in this timeline.

A Multi-Year Commitment to Engagement

The Gallup Engagement Impact Plan is a strategic, multi-year commitment to fostering a vibrant, connected, and supportive community. This journey began in the second quarter of 2025 with a comprehensive Baseline Survey. This initial step was crucial to establish a spiritual “compass reading” and measure how effectively we are currently serving the Lord and one another within our congregation. Each phase will be prayerfully designed to build upon the last, mirroring the continuous growth and sanctification we experience in our personal walks with Christ.
