“A Holy Cross in the Compass”

The move to Sanford, Florida came immediately following Warren Jennison’s retirement from U.S. Naval service. He had successfully secured a new role as the drafting teacher at Seminole High School, but the immediate priority for the family was to find a church home.

Warren and Christine, with their four children, began their search. Initially, Warren drove to the Sanford Lutheran church. He met the pastor in the parking lot and, in conversation, inquired about the church. The pastor, seeing a man with a large, young family, seemed somewhat surprised and quickly directed him to Holy Cross in Lake Mary. He explained frankly that his own church family consisted mostly of older folks. Though Warren was taken aback by the comment, he thanked the pastor and acted on the recommendation.

That suggestion proved to be a pivotal moment.

The Jennison family of six attended for the first time at the original Holy Cross building, in what is now the Community Center. They joined the established body of believers for their second worship service. Looking back some thirty-seven years later, Warren and Christine reflect on that initial service with deep joy.

The family became members and have been ever since. Their children are now grown, having established their own families and lives—though their middle daughter and her family still attend worship at Holy Cross.

Warren and Christine remain active members. Their time at Holy Cross has become very special, filled with a goodly number of activities alongside the weekly worship and Bible study. They remain very happy and content with their choice to join all those they have come to share services and fellowship with. They enjoy meeting and greeting all who come to the beautiful Church and its activities, and they are eternally grateful for the caring shown toward them and their family over all these years. May God continue to bless the community they found.
